What are the Different Face Shapes?
There are seven face shape types, including:
- Round face: Has an even or nearly even face width and length, and soft, rounded facial features
- Oval or oblong face: Is similar to a round face, even width with soft features, but elongated
- Square face: This face type has an even width and ultra-defined, angular features, creating a “strong” or “chiseled” look
- Rectangle face: Is an elongated version of a square face
- Heart-shaped face: This face shape includes a wide forehead (the widest part of the face), high cheekbones, and a narrow chin
- Diamond face: One of the more difficult face shapes to determine, this one is slender and typically has high cheekbones with a narrower forehead to cheekbone ratio
- Triangle face: This type has a wide forehead, high, defined cheekbones, a strong jawline, and a narrow chin
Some people can determine their face type by looking in the mirror, but for others, it takes a little more detective work.
How to Find Your Face Shape Type

Measure Your Face
Measuring your face with a soft, flexible tape measure will tell you which parts are widest (forehead, cheeks, jaw, and chin), which can help you determine your shape from the descriptions above.
Here’s how to measure your face from top to bottom in four steps:
- Measure your face length: Measure from the bottom of your chin to the top of your hairline.
- Measure your forehead width: Measure the widest part of your forehead from hairline to hairline. Try to keep the measuring tape flat.
- Measure the width of your cheekbones: Find the highest point of your cheekbone (smiling will accentuate it), which should be right under your eye, and measure from one cheekbone to the other. Again, try to keep the measuring tape flat.
- Measure your jawline width: Measure from the start of your jawline ( just below the ear) to the center of your chin, and multiply by two. Since you have to bend the tape, this is more accurate than trying to measure the entire jaw.
Once you have these measurements, refer again to the face shape type description above to determine yours.

Heart-Shaped Face Shape

Diamond Face Shape
