Mouthwash and brushing rinse may seem like the exact same thing, but they actually have very different uses and benefits. We’re breaking down the differences between these two essentials and sharing why it’s important to include both in your daily routine.

What is Mouthwash?

Mouthwash provides a powerful defense against sugar acids, bacteria and plaque to help promote healthy teeth and gums with the inherently cleansing power of botanicals.

At Desert Essence, our entire mouthwash collection is formulated without sugar and alcohol. Instead, we focus on naturally-inspired ingredients like organic coconut oil, pure Australian tea tree oil and soothing aloe to help draw out impurities, support gum health and keep your smile bright while leaving your breath deliciously fresh.

How to Use Mouthwash

For adults and children six years of age and older, we recommend using ½  oz. of mouthwash and rinsing for approximately 30 seconds.

How Often Should You Use Mouthwash?

We suggest using mouthwash twice a day — once in the morning and once in the evening after you finish brushing your teeth.

What is Brushing Rinse?

Saliva plays a big role in neutralizing the acids in our mouth, and that can spell trouble overnight as our saliva production slows down while we snooze. Fortunately, that’s where our botanical-based brushing rinses step in to save the day. Formulated for use prior to brushing, our pre-brush rinses utilize the power of plants to refresh your entire mouth before you even reach for your toothbrush.

Prebiotic powerhouses inulin and chicory root work to cultivate a healthy mouth microbiome by helping to keep odor-causing bacteria at bay. Similarly, perilla seed and pure Australian tea tree oil help neutralize bacteria, while plant oils and extracts help purify your teeth and gums.

How to Use Brushing Rinse

For adults and children six years of age and older, we recommend swishing approximately ½ oz. of brushing rinse in your mouth for 30 seconds before brushing your teeth.

How Often Should You Use Brushing Rinse?

We suggest using a pre-brush rinse before you brush your teeth each morning to help eliminate odor-causing bacteria produced in your mouth overnight.

How are Mouthwash and Brushing Rinse Different?

While mouthwash is primarily a post-brush mouth rinse, brushing rinse is used before brushing and can also be used to help keep toothbrushes properly clean. We suggest incorporating both products in your dental routine for a brighter, whiter and healthier smile overall.
